AGM 2000

The Annual General Meeting of the Friends of the Ochils will be held on Thursday 23 November 2000, at 7pm in Alloa Town Hall.

It is remarkable that, since FotO was established in 1993, the office bearers have been drawn from the same small group - and to the satisfaction, it would appear, of the entire membership! This is a state of affairs which could seriously mitigate against not just our efficiency, but our proper guardianship and protection of these beautiful hills. So: new blood, fresh ideas?

Alistair Lawson, FotO chairman, feels it is time to give someone else a chance to guide our deliberations and to chart our course. He hopes to stand down at the AGM.

Members will see elsewhere in this issue that former FotO secretary Peter Dilworth is busy among the Russians. His secretarial successor, David Robertson, had hoped (and intended) that his tenure was a stop-gap appointment...

Your executive committee has on previous occasions asked that nominations and motions should be timeously lodged with the secretary prior to the AGM. Where nominations are concerned this year, we beg...! It is to be hoped - nay, confidently expected - that members will seriously consider this plea from the executive committee, and will put their nominations forward.

Rather than have a guest speaker following this year's AGM business, there will be the launch of the FotO showpiece slide lecture by Robin Kelsall of the publicity sub-group. It is fitting that members should have the first opportunity of seeing and hearing this show - which, it is hoped, will spread news of FotO's existence and aims farther afield.
